Ticknock and the Sugar loaf on a misty evening. I remember asing our Dad Frank, why was it Call the ” Sugarloaf” and he said it was because it looked like the shape sugar would make when tipped out in a heap on a table:)
Why was Ticknock called that?
Well there is a fairymound up high there and if you get a small stone on the way and put it on top of the mound there
and before its (k)nocked over by the tick of time, your wish will come true.
This fairy castle there 7ft high (used to be a Cave) and the fairies still live there to this day.
I also heard the story that the little stone has to be a square shape or have 3 straight edges to ensure you will meet your intended within the year and have
7 children! Watch out for those square stones…
Its a great doable climb to see Ticknock, 270 metres above sea level and worth it, as soon You’ll notice an amazing view of all of Dublin including Howth to Bray and the great Sugarloaf and the little Sugarloaf mountains of Wicklow in fact on a sunny day you can see counties Dublin and Wicklow and two countries Ireland and Wales UK.
