This chamber which was built about 5000 years ago to align with angle of Winter light from the Sun entering through the shaft to the centre Chambers within, on the shortest day of the year every 21st December.
On this day only, The sun light shines directly thru a portal at the top entrance to this inner chamber for 11 minutes each year.
I enjoyed doing this Turfpic as it kept reminding me of the time my Father Frank showed us this great mound at Newgrange where you could simply walk in and see all the stones and Chambers.
In this painting i endeavoured to emulate the light shaft and some of the Chambers where we stood to see the light shaft enter.
it was indeed enthralling to witness the astrophysics of our ancestors calculations and intelligence.
Recently and amazingly some Pharoh DNA has recently been found there.
Quote from the New York Times
written by the Science Writer,
@James Gorman ….
“The vast Stone Age tomb mounds in the valley of the River Boyne, about 25 miles north of Dublin, are so impressive that the area has been called the Irish Valley of the Kings. And a new analysis of ancient human DNA from Newgrange, the most famous of the mounds in Ireland, suggests that the ancient Irish may have had more than monumental grave markers in common with the pharaohs.”
Our DNA is as old as Newgrange !
